Hi there, welcome!
I'm pretty new to Shiny Hunting too, the only tip I ccould give you off the bat is to trying completing the Pokédex, then the Professor will give you the "Shiny Charm" which will increase your chances of finding Shiny Pokémon!
That plus the methods seen the the threads above could prove to be very effective!

Welcome to the forums!! It's always fun to see a new face around here! In regards to shiny hunting, I definitely recommend searching in the friend safari. I have found four shinies in the friend safari (and counting) and every time it has taken me no more than 40 minutes. Usually I find one within 15 minutes!
Good luck!

Hey there, and welcome to the forum!
Like others have already mentioned, Shiny Hunting would be more efficient in Friend Safaris since they have a lower shiny encounter rate than in ordinary grass. However, you're limited to the Pokémon you can catch there. There are other ways such as Fish Chaining, and the Poké Radar. Both of which, require a lot of patience and concentration. I've caught many shinies using all three methods.
Good luck!
