I've wondered this ever since I added them to my team, and they're pretty equal, Sylveon and Umbreon are both pretty strong defensive Eeveelutions, but which do you think has the better defence stat? o:

I think it all depends. Syvleon resists the more common types such as dragon and fighting, while umbreon sinply has a better defence stat. Umbreon has curse to patch up its mediocre defence, while syvleon only has calm mind to build up its already high special defends. Personally, I prefer Syvleon as it could hold its own in battle with draining kiss + calm mind + wish.

I was thinking the same thing the other night but I'll try running with Sylveon in my team and see how it goes. Imagine it'll be the better of the two! ^.^

I'm using umbreon as a defensive Pokemon for me.. It works really well except for when the opponent uses a strong fighting move like aura sphere, that usually defeats it.

Umbreon has a Base Defense Stat of 110, Sylveon has a Base SpDef Stat of 130...
You should be using Umbreon if your opponent has many physical attackers, and Sylveon if they have many Special attackers, otherwise they'll both go down fairly quickly. I think this Generation, Umbreon will be a better choice, the more common Mega Evoultions are Physical, and there are better Special walls such as Goodra to replace Sylveon.

As far as special walls for fairy type I believe Florges and Klefki will both do better for me, despite Klefki's base special defense I think it's ability and moves such as sub mean it can be utilized nicely! ^.^

You also have to remember that, umbreon doubles as a physical and special wall. The only thing is, umbreon is limited to confuse ray and swagger of it wants to cripple the opponent as a staller. It also has wish and heal bell if it wants to be a support unit. Umbreon's offensive capibilites are limited to foul play curse and payback and with fairy types in the play, it's going to be harder for umbreon to take the heat. It all just depends on whether you like your walls to double up as defensive and offensive., which is why I love power whip Ferrothorn so much.

So I guess the base stats are kinda different then, it seems like Umbreon would be better in certain occasions also. However, I feel like Sylveon could last longer because it has Draining Kiss to heal itself as well.

It's just Slvyeon has less defence, but with its 110 base attack, it can hold its own in battle. But like Leader said, if all depends on you and your opponents team.

Umbreon also gets a healing move don't forget. But they've got two different Niches, Sylveon is nice because of it's Spdef and it's new fairy type, which is rather defensive and a huge switch up to the meta. It resists (Or is neutral to) everything that was common in Gen V.
