Hey,
So recently I've noticed that I appear to be having a LOT of luck encountering Shiny Pokemon in Friend Safari in Pokemon X/Y. Now, this could be purely down to luck alone, but from what I've seen, my encounter rate with Shinies seems to be much higher than the majority of other peoples', and I'm not even spending that much time in there compared with a lot of people. I follow a system, and after a lot of demand on Twitter for me to share my 'hints and tips', this is what this topic is for! to share my system with you guys.
NOTE: I am not claiming that this is a definitive and fool proof method for encountering shinies. It definitely hasn't been confirmed by Nintendo, and a lot of it is based on rumours that I've heard around the Internet and things that I've picked up on my own. If you don't believe this and don't want to try it, then don't. simple. I'm just saying that it's what I do personally, and if you guys want to try it too, out of boredom or pure interest, then do so :) don't hate. and don't waste your time telling me its bullcrap.
So here's my advice...
1) Keep on top of your Friend Safaris
---------Max out your Friend Safaris' as soon as possible. This gives you a greater variety of types and Pokemon to choose from and target, and stops the shiny hunting from getting too boring. Have a look at each one of your Friend Safaris - chances are that some of them have exactly the same 3 Pokemon in them as each other; in this case you should delete one of your friends *harsh I know* and replace them with a new friend that has a type or Pokemon that you don't have. This ensures that you have as many different types and mixes of Pokemon as possible. You can trade your FC with lots of people on the forums and on other social media such as Twitter and Facebook.
2) Prepare your balls
---------Before even entering the Friend Safari, go to the Pokemon Center, and buy lots of balls! I advise Great Balls for best value for money, but there are tonnes of good balls to choose from. Just make sure you have enough (100+).
3) Assemble a Wolfpack
----------It's important before you go shiny hunting, to assemble a well thought out party! I use a Volbeat in slot 1, a Volbeat in slot 2 and a Pangoro in slot 3. I only take 3 Pokemon in friend safari with me. The Volbeat in Slot 1 is holding a SMOKE BALL to allow it to flee from any battle *this comes in VERY handy* and both Volbeats' have the ability 'Illuminate' which is RUMOURED to increase your chances of encountering a shiny Pokemon. You don't HAVE to use Volbeat, just so long as whatever leading Pokemon you use has the ability Illuminate. Pangoro is a high level (65) so can take damage from the level 30 friend safari Pokemon it encounters whilst I'm tossing balls at them, and it also has the move 'false swipe' which reduces an opposing Pokemons' HP but never faint its; leaving it with a minimum of 1 HP each time. This makes the opposing Pokemon very weak and thus easier to catch. Be wary of Pokemon that might have any move which deals them with recoil (e.g. take down, double edge) though, and if you think they may possess this move, then refrain from using false swipe!
4) The Actual Method for Encountering Shinies
-----------You should have a minimum of around 5 Friend Safaris for this..
- Ensure that the 3 stages above are followed (Prepare your Safaris, Balls and Wolfpack!)
- Enter a Friend Safari
- Hop on your bike and ride around (DONT use repels)
- Every time you encounter a non-shiny Pokemon, run from it. You'll be successful in running every time due to your lead Pokemon holding a Smoke ball.
- Stay in that safari for no longer than 15 minutes (Shinies tend to occur early into the Safari)
- If no Shiny is encountered, leave the Safari
- Immediately enter a different Safari (can be any type)
- Repeat the above steps until Shiny is found
That's it!
If anyone tries this over the next few days, please leave me logs of how you've gotten on :)
Thanks and good luck!
-Jay
