I couldn't come up with a better title...
Now that Poke Bank/Transporter is [FINALLY!!!] out, Pokemon from 10 years ago can be brought to the future in possibly a day. However, this brings about a problem: they can never return to where they came from.
So here's a question for the general audience: When you're given the option to permanently import to next-gen games, do you hesitate? Like, are you afraid to let your old game/save files be deserted from having no "strong" Pokemon? For example, when Pal Park was available in Gen IV, (from the beginning) did anyone want to keep Pokemon on their Emerald Version so that they could still some day master the Battle Frontier? Or just so they could go back and play it just for fun, since it was an experience like no other?
Similarly, with all the insane leveling you could get in HeartGold/Soulsilver and Black/White 2, were you afraid of never being able to get back to the power you originally had, thinking that transfering your highest level Pokemon would doom your old save file, making you not want to touch that game again?
Deserting, so to speak, my old games has been something I've always despised doing. When I first started Gen IV, the only Pokemon I transferred from my old FireRed cartridge were a few Pokemon that I had extra of and flooding my boxes, or Pokemon that I couldn't get on Diamond, but could easily get again on FireRed. The only legendaries and high-leveled Pokemon that I received on that game were ones that my brother so willingly gave to me from his LeafGreen version that he longer wanted since he was starting over and didn't want to go through the trouble of transferring them to my Ruby and Emerald versions. He even trained his Mewtwo to level 87 (which took me until Black 2 to acheive, thanks to Challenge Mode and the Black Tower; how he managed to get to level 87 beats me...) because he was so eager to see how transferring worked. (He doesn't own his own DS/3DS, so he only plays stuff that plays on an SP.) In total, I only ended up getting about 30-40 Pokemon from Gen IV. That included the fact that I had used four of five Gen III games.
All I know is that if I hadn't learned about Pokecheck 6 days ago, I wouldn't have transferred more than 20 Pokemon from my Black 2 version. And 5 of those were Pokemon I worked up when X/Y were already out, for Move Tutor breeding purposes. So I know this has been more of a story than a question, but does anyone else hesitate to transfer old Pokemon, knowing that they can never go back to the past?

Well, I think once you've beat the leauge and done all you can do on the game you're going to likely leave the game on its own for sometime.
I personally never felt the need to go back as there isn't much to do. I do have a thing about keeping old OT's for some reason, but once the OT's get passed onto a Gen they can't go back to... then I guess I don't care so much...
So yeah, I guess when I transfer things up like that it's just a chance to play things again, which is nice as now I can play White which I absolutely love! <3

I never really thought to much of it. When I first started with Pokemon Red, I used to constantly restart and play through the game over and over. When G/S came out and I became more interested in battling with Friends on stadium 2, I trained up a lot of pokemon on my Silver cart. I was really disappointed that I couldn't bring those pokemon to R/S, so I have never had a problem with transferring pokemon over. Plus, once they are gone I can replay the game as many times as I would like with out losing my pokemon.

All of my mons from Ruby and Sapphire are now in X and Y. I have no problem transferring up because I feel as though if I wanted to play an old game I'd probably start from the beginning again anyway.

So I see that most prople arr just saying that they can start over with no problem...
See, the issue I have with that is that I don't want to pour in so many hours just to get back where I was again. In Emerald, I COULD transfer old Pokemon than beat the game in 20 hours. But that's 20 hours I could be spending playing a newer game, eagerly awaiting the end.
I played X constantly because it was new and I wanted to see what was next and what it had in store to offer. In Emerald, I already know what's going to happen, and I don't want to replay it for the purpose of getting my Pokemon back. I want to replay it when I feel like experiencing the game again. I don't want to wear out myself playing the game for a purpose that's not primarily fun.
In a different and a [IMO] more valid arguement, when I went back to Pokecheck all my Gen IV Pokemon, I discovered something shocking. Before going back to these games, I had about 267 hours into my X version. I rembered only having 225-250 hours on each of my two most played games- Diamond and Heartgold.
But to my surprise, I opened up Diamond. My last play date was December 23. 2012. For the purpose of trading my cousin some starters. Then I went to save. 366 hours. And 450 Pokemon obtained. I suddenly went crazy, thinking, "Why did I stop there?! I was so close to completing my trainer card!!"
I can't just let progress like that go to waste. Not even at 100 hours that I had 4 years ago did I even consider starting over, something I did multiple times in Ruby. Needless to say, I came back to Diamond recently, and I keep it very near and dear to my heart. Breaking the game would take me on an emotional roller coaster. Pokemon means a lot to me. That's why I'm here at this forum.
On another note, my HeartGold version also mysteriously had around 350 hours. I had so many Battle Frontier records that I worked my rear end off to acheive. No way am I pouring that much time to do it again, when I also did Battle Frontier things in Platinum.
So transfering Pokemon would make me go through more things that I am way not willing to do. Thank God (Mew) for pokecheck.org...

What I do every time I use the Pal Park, or in this case the Poke Transporter, is have two of each Pokemon who I love on both games if that is the Pokemon I'm transferring. As for Pokemon who are unavailable in the current game, I'll catch a new one in the old game and send it over. I don't believe in stripping my game of all my Pokemon.

Thank God (Mew) for pokecheck.org... I generally like to replay games so I guess that's why it never bothers me. Everyone has different preferences. For me personally, I couldn't imagine paying $40+ for a game, 100% it, then never touching it again... I usually 100%, not touch it for a while then restart it. I almost maxed out my timer on HG/SS and had a black trainer card. I replayed it not to long after B/W came out.

So you're saying that you only transfer Pokemon that you have two of? Or are you saying that you make another one of it to transfer? A scenario I have is my Swampert on Emerald. This next part it another story, so I'll put it into double brackets. When the important part comes, I'll close them. [[When I started Emerald, I picked Mudkip. I always do in Gen III. I love Swampert. I'll always get Mudkip, even if Blaziken is pretty awesome. I restarted Ruby as a child about 6 times, picking Mudkip the last 3 times. (My brother used to influence my decision for Torchic back in the day.) I eventually got Emerald and picked Mudkip, but my cartridge broke down within 3 months. I wasn't even at Fortree City. I later bought another cartridge when I was a teenager, realzing what I had missed out on. Picked Mudkip. I wanted it to learn Hydro Pump, now fully understanding the mechanics and skill of Pokemon. I then taught it Hidden Power. It was Ghost, with high power. Swampert was by far my best member in my team, and it dominated practically everything. It was unstoppable. I had to make sure it wasn't overleveled, no matter how badly I wanted to use it. At Wallace, it was the only capable of surviving. It grew to Level 51. Not knowing about Open Level in the Battle Frontier, I restarted the battle, wanting all my Pokemon to be under level 51. It took me multiplr tries to win without using Swampert for more than one Pokemon, but I eventually succeeded.]] Intrigued by Swampert's domination over my whole team, I later found the Judge by accident, who I didn't know existed in Gen III. Then the news: Swampert had outstanding IVs. Never had this happened to me with a team member. It rarely happened to me to have a Pokemon with above "above aberage potential." I kept those Pokemon. To have it happen to my one Swampert that I knew what I was doing with in-game on Gen III was far more than a dream come true. I had never found a Pokemon this high on IVs in a Gen III game (as far as I had checked,) and it was Swampert out of all things. I told myself, "I can't just simply throw this opportunity away. He could be nearly unstoppable in the Battle Frontier. I must keep him here!" And that's what I did. He's still there today. I even grew the tiniest bit of feelings for Swampert. Why remove it from his home town, where only a strong Hidden Power Ghost and Ice Beam would well on a Swampert? I have other Pokemon like that in Diamond and HeartGold that I believe are better left where they came from. How will I ever get this ONE Pokemon back. It's not the same without a quirky nature, Perefect HP and Attack EVs, Hidden Power Ghost, strong straight from the professor, grew up with a Breloom and Aggron, helped save the region, dominated its team members growing up, never fell behind despite not evolving until Level 41, was by far the MVP of the Pokklemon League...the list goes on. Need I say more? It's not the same putting him in new games where getting a better Swampert is easier, and competes with other strong Pokemon, and HAS to change its formerly awesome moveset, to only be a killer to a few. Why ditch his old friends and homeland for something that doesn't pay off for him? I am not going through hard times currently, but Pokemon used to be my life. And defending Swampert like this and getting emotional like this has some kind of relevance...doesn't it? It has to have its place...

For example, if I want a Chansey, I will catch another one to send to my game. That way, I am not leaving my game with no Pokemon. As for legendaries, I take them from the "non special" versions, like regular Black/White. I like to leave the special version (Black 2, Platinum) with all of my legendaries. I still feel bad about taking legendaries from my old games lol. But on the other hand I did catch them and put the time in to get them ~Alyssa

Though i understand your questioning it's not a good question to ask so many people, this is because nobody is the same, some people have trouble transporting and some don't, i never had a problem transporting, the only reason i haven't done it yet is because my pokebank is broke i think, it will connect once with internet but after brigettes talkit loses connection

I've experienced both sides of this issue. I transferred my play through team from Platinum forward, and it is now in X. On the one hand, if I want to go back and do something in Platinum, I typically travel with a bunch of legendaries because I don't really have a team. I do have an excuse to restart the game, but I've never gotten around to doing it. On the other hand, since my Platinum team is in X, I can use it for battles, and it is fun to use because it has aged surprisingly well.
