I'm making a gym team for a league challenge I agreed to join (no it's most likely not some challenge you know of). I tried grabbing the strongest steel type pokemon while also trying to cover the common weaknesses of steel types.
Also note that I'm not allowed to use mega stones or legendaries (even if OU) for this team.
Magnezone@ Light Clay (Lead and wall setup)
Ability: Sturdy
Nature: Modest
-Reflect
-Light Screen
-Thunderbolt
-Flash Cannon
EVs: 252 HP / 208 Sp Atk / 48 Speed
Magnezones main role is to set up the walls for my battle. With only one type, I will take a lot of supereffective damage and need to minimize it as soon as possible. However, I may switch it out to Skarmory if I have a fear of Earthquake, seeing that will be definite 2HKO even with walls up. After that, it will deal as much damage as it can with the two weapons it has. I went for Thunderbolt instead of Thunder since I'm quite unlucky with RNG and like to rely on it as little as possible.
Metagross@ Weakness Policy (Physical Agility sweeper)
Ability: Clear Body
Nature: Jolly
-Agility
-Earthquake
-Zen Headbutt
-Meteor Mash
EVs: 252 Speed, 252 Atk, 6HP
My plan here is to set up Reflect/Light Screen so Metagross can certainly eat one supereffective hit (which I will most likely get since enemy knows my type before match) and then with increased speed via Agility and increased attack, I can deal some heavy punishment.
Aegislash@ Leftovers (Physical sweeper)
Ability: Stance Change
Nature: Adamant
-Sword Dance
-Kings Shield
-Sacred Sword
-Shadow Sneak
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Atk, 6 Def
Simply use Kings Shield to lower enemy Atk or heal with leftovers unti I can build my attack behind Shield Forms defense. Then sweep the enemy but pop King's Shield every once in a while to heal up and scout enemy attacks. If I think enemy will use Will-O-Wisp, I'll change to either Lucario, Magnezone or Empoleon.
Skarmory@ Leftovers (Physical Wall)
Ability: Sturdy
Nature: Impish
-Spikes
-Roost
-Brave Bird
-Whirlwind
EVs: 224 HP, 252 Def, 32 Sp Def
Skarmory can switch in to ground type moves safely. Then it should have a few turns to set up spikes while eating physical hits. If my HP gets too low, I Roost and continue. Once Spikes are set enough, I'll start Brave Birding. IF enemy switches to special attacker, I'll Whirlwind it away. IT will give me time to Roost while enemy switching will reduce their HP with spikes.
Lucario@ Focus Sash (Special Sweeper)
Ability: Inner Focus
Nature: Timid
-Nasty Plot
-Aura Sphere
-shadow Ball
-Vacuum Wave
EVs: 252 Speed, 252 Sp Atk, 6 HP
While Lucario might not be the best special sweeper out there, it's the only steel type option due to commonly low speed of Steel type. Setting one Nasty Plot already can set him for high damage Vacuum Wave for sweepers and Aura Sphere for defensive pokemon. I decided PSychic for my last move for high power and some coverage.
Empoleon@ Damp Rock (Special wall)
Ability: Torrent
Nature: Calm
-Scald
-Toxic
-Ice Beam
-Rain Dance
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Sp Def, 6 Sp Atk
Before you question Rain Dance, I only chose it to reduce fire types effectiveness since it's the hardest type for me to counter. Empoleon as a whole was chosen to combat fire types along with being my special wall. I would have used Leftovers and change Rain Dance to Protect, but I only have 2 of them and those went to Skarmory and Aegislash. If I get one, I will change the moveset.
Also note that I'm not allowed to use mega stones or legendaries (even if OU) for this team.
