So, while I was writing in the Top 5 Anime thread I noticed a lot of people had put Pokémon right up there!
That's really cool! But when I was thinking about my top 5, I couldn't put Pokémon on my top 5 at all. I do love the anime, but not for reasons I like to watch other shows. I'm currently rewatching Pokémon now, from the very first episode, so I don't want anyone to think I dislike the show or anything!
But when it comes to Pokémon, I see it as a kids show. The first batch of episodes bring me nostalgia, and the plots aren't that greatly written. The new series was pretty decent, but I couldn't recommend it to anyone as a "good anime" to watch.
Maybe there is a bit of an age gap here or something, I am nearly 20 after all... but I think it'd be great if you told me exactly why Pokémon is rated so highly to some of you, or if you agree with me, why you do!

I thought the first few episodes were decent enough, but as things progressed you expect ash to become better but he hasn't really. His Pikachu lost to a beginner trainers starter Pokémon there is nothing that can be redeemed from that. and we can clearly show how he seems to give away or release GOOD Pokémon, Primeape, pidgeot, Beedril, butterfree, prob many more. Lets talk about Charizard... originally wasn't it abandoned because it wasn't strong? What did Ash do when they got to the charizard valley? Talk about being hypocritical. Maybe they'd hope that there audience would forget that scene..

I'm 21 and the anime has really gone downhill from the first two gens. After Pokemon contests in both Gen 3 and 4 began, I just couldn't watch after that, it completely ruined my persepective towards the whole anime haha so I never saw the anime when it was in Unova. I did happen to stumble across a random episode where Charizard shows up again so that was pretty cool. And I did see Kyurem and the Swords of Justic, and it was alright, not the best Pokemon movie ever. Gens 1 and 2 were my favorite of the anime just because it really wasn't just for kids, older people could enjoy it. The anime used to be like risky and the jokes were dirty sometimes haha but I'm sure no one understood them as a kid! But now that I've seen Ash do beauty contests and dress up and all that nonsense, I just dislike his character greatly haha he's an idiot, I'm sorry. There's just no progress whatsoever and it irritates me so bad. I did see the first and second episode of the X/Y anime and I really liked the action scenes and seeing Mega Blaziken gave me chills haha but when ash went against Clemont and didn't even win, it was just a draw, I was furious. Ash's Pikachu is supposed to be what like level 143 or something? It should've DESTROYED that Bunnelby haha but of course not. Then that would make sense! And nothing in the Pokemon universe makes a ton of sense. I wish it could to back to the way it used to be in Gen 1 and Gen 2. Don't get me wrong, I love all the generations, but only game wise. The anime can just go away forever haha sorry for my rant :P please continue with your day

I am re watching the Johto saga and Falkner sounds like he smokes 10 packs a day. xD I thought it was really funny.

Also I agree with Josh, the anime has gone so downhill. Also it is laughably stupid. In my opinion.

I've never seen any other anime before, so I wouldn't know what to compare it to but I really enjoy the pokemon Anime. Granted I haven't seen all of it. I watched from season one, till the end of the Johto league episodes when I was a kid and then sorta fell out of Pokemon for a long time up until the release of XY. I started to re watch the anime from episode one, and enjoy it just as much, if not more than I did when I was a kid.
And the new XY serious is AMAZING so far! I'm really diggin the voice acting, and the battles are so much better than they used to be (thank goodness the pokemon use more than one attack now -___-).
