In preparation for getting a working (finally) copy of Pokemon Diamond, I was wondering what the general opinion is of the starter Pokemon in the game. I've heard that there are very few fire Pokemon in this one, which would make me lean towards picking Chimchar (fire type), but I've never really liked fire type that much, I usually tend towards water. Conversely, as good as Empoleon (final water evolution) looks resistances-wise, there is something about it being a big penguin that puts me off it. So, I'm thinking going green and picking Turtwig, what's everyone else's thoughts on this? :)

I chose chimchar for diamond and platinum and infernape is a awesome pokemon! Pinplup and turtwig are okay as well. Personally I would choose chimchar, but it's up to you!

I'm leaning towards Chimchar at the moment, definitely. Looks like it'll end up as a pretty good all-out offensive guy.

I love grass starters, so I picked Turtwig. Infernape was the only one I didn't like, Empoleon is Water/Steel Penguin, which is awesome! Torterra is a piece of earth, which is also really cool!

See this is what is making it such a difficult decision! :P Fire: good attack, and there's limited other fire Pokemon in the game. Water: good final form, steel and water. Grass: again, great final form, and it's pretty reminiscent of Venusaur (albeit with ground type added). I'm still unsure which I'm going to pick! :/

Infernape. It'll come in handy, considering it just punches the EXP out of everything.

I chose a chimchar. I beat Diamond with 2 pokemon, Infernape and Floatzel. I ran into trouble with Wake but I still managed to beat the elite four and cynthia on my first go. Infernape is just too OP in terms of gyms, if you can get monferno by the first gym it can potentially sweep 7 out of 8 gyms (except Wake).

Piplup on Pearl, Chimchar on Diamond, Turtwig on Platinum. Well Platinum was a breeze as I had everything traded over :p Honestly Infernape so really strong in the game. Not to mention useful. Never once did I not need him(unless against water types & flying)

I chose Piplup. Empoleon is an utter boss considering my live for steel types. I remember naming my first one Napoleon, haha.

I think I've decided I'll go the Piplup route. Water/steel sounds too good to pass up. Thanks for all the advice guys! I'll have to find some replacement as best I can for Infernape. :P

I've always gone with chimchar or piplup, I never seem to choose the grass type starters and I'm not too sure why =/
Go with turtwig!

Torterra looks pretty good, probably looks like it'd be my favourite final evolution of them, but I'm usually dissuaded from grass type starters because of the availability of other grass Pokemon elsewhere.

Haha, see, that's a legitimate reason at least! :) I just think fire and water pokemon generally look cooler.
